Problem
A hardware component change on all CG Series controllers and select XPM expansion modules with factory date code RY12437 or later has made prior Release 11 controller firmware versions incompatible with these devices. Loading incompatible firmware on the controller causes a constant reboot cycle that is not recoverable in the field.Important: No firmware upgrade is required for new devices. All affected controllers are shipping from the factory with the correct, compatible firmware version 11.0.3.15. It is not necessary to upgrade devices with factory date codes earlier than RY12437 to 11.0.3, however, firmware version 11.0.3.15 is backward compatible with all CG Series controllers and XPM04060-0 and XPM09090-0 expansion modules, regardless of their factory date code.
While downgrades are not typically recommended, if required to do so, this problem is only seen when a user downgrades the controller firmware from version 11.0.3.15 firmware to a prior firmware release, and then upgrades the controller firmware to incompatible firmware versions 11.0.0.x, 11.0.1.x, or 11.0.2.x. This problem does not occur if the user upgrades from a firmware release prior to 11.0.0.x back to the latest 11.0.3.15 firmware.
Solution
New 11.0.3.15 firmware package files are required for Facility Explorer tools
to be able to support F4-CGM09090-0x, F4-CGM04060-0, F4-CGE09090-0x,
F4-CGE04060-0, F4-CCM09090-0, F4-XPM09090-0, and F4-XPM04060-0
devices that come from the factory at 11.0.3. You can find these package files
under the FX Field Controller Packages (FX-FCP) product starting from
collection version 5.0.0.786.
The updated FX-FCP is available to download from the License Portal. The licensing procedure and the procedures to import the package files remain the same.
