Custom Training Panels for Dunwoody Technical College

BCG creates custom training boards for Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, MN

As the only private, not-for-profit technical college in the Upper Midwest, Dunwoody has over 200,000 alumni – many of them now respected industry leaders and entrepreneurs.

Today, our graduates enter the workforce with competence, determined to start meaningful and rewarding careers with certificates, associates, and bachelor’s degrees in more than 40 majors.

This was a fun and honorable project to work on for BCG because both John Zappa and Roy Bello from BCG are Dunwoody Alumni! John was at Dunwoody in 1987/88 for HVAC and Environmental Systems Design and Roy in 2023 for HVAC Service.

A little note about Roy, He graduated from Dunwoody in May of 2023 and little did he know he would be back there training his same instructors that were training him. Roy did all of the Panel fabrication, Wiring, Programming, and setup of these training Boards and will be training and demonstrating to his former instructors the use and operations of the Training Stations. We are all very proud of the great progress Roy Bello has made in a short time since his graduation

Training Boards will be used in both HVAC and Electrical Programs:
    • The HVAC Program will be Their Automation and Controls Lab
    • In Electrical they will learn Lighting Control and Basic HVAC Lab

The panels will be able to demonstrate the following to the students:

    • HVAC Thermostat Control
    • BacNet MSTP Wiring
    • Lighting Control
    • Loop Programming and Logic
    • Data Sharing from one controller to another
    • BacNet Integration
      • The Johnson Controls Verasys Smart Building Hub Integrates the Blue Ridge Lighting Control System
    • WIFI Access
    • Remote Cloud Access
    • Basic Graphical Viewing, Monitoring, Trending and Alarming

A Special Thank you goes out to the following companies and individuals for their contributions in making these training stations come to life.

    • Melissa Banck from Johnson Controls (Verasys Control System, Actuators, Thermostats, Controllers, Supervisory)
    • John Muhle from Functional Devices (Panel main Power Supply)
    • Dennis Swoboda from Blue Ridge Lighting Control (Lighting Controllers, Occupancy sensors and Capacitance Tough Stations)

Know that these Training Labs will be providing the spark to the next generation of students to look at careers in Building Controls and Automation of our HVAC industry.
